Agen, In the Porte du Pin neighborhood, there's one memory that several generations cherish: that of freshly roasted coffee wafting out of a small shop every morning to fill the street. That shop belonged to Monsieur Taillefer. And that aroma is the starting point of a story that began in 1945. More than eighty years later, it continues to unfold.
An authentic coffee roaster since 1945, Maison Taillefer is a house of artisanal coffee and gourmet products born in Agen, in the Southwest of France. Roasted and flavored coffee, tea and infusions, chocolate, confectionery and biscuits: all our products stem from the same founding gesture, and the same high standards passed down from day one.
Nothing predestined Mr. Taillefer At the café. A crockery merchant, he also nurtured a true passion: roasting coffee, which he practiced at home in Agen, purely for pleasure. He began offering his coffee to some of his customers, and their enthusiasm was such that he soon saw it as much more than a hobby. This passion, now undeniable, led him to make it his profession.
In 1945, he opened his first shop in the heart of the working-class neighborhood of Porte du Pin. At a time when coffee was still sold in bulk, by weight, he made the choice of exacting standards: selecting the best beans, roasting them slowly, monitoring the color, listening to the crackle, adjusting the temperature to the precise degree. Very quickly, the shop became a place to live. People come here for the coffee, but also for the morning greeting, the advice, that suspended moment when the bean passes from hand to hand.
